A police headquarters which was evacuated to a "reported incident" has been declared safe.

Wiltshire Police's headquarters in Devizes was evacuated as a precautionary measure at 18:00 BST on Tuesday.

Emergency services were in attendance and members of the public were told to avoid the area.

The force stressed the incident was not linked to terrorism.

A search was carried out before the building was declared safe at about 21:00 BST.

Supt Doug Downing there were no injuries and no arrests.

He said: "Contrary to some inaccurate media speculation, there is categorically no link to terrorism.

“For further public reassurance - we wish to make clear that at no point was there any risk to staff or members of the public.

"We wish to thank the public who may have been inconvenienced, for their patience and understanding."
