A soldier stabbed near the barracks he was posted to in Kent has been discharged from hospital, with a trial date set for his alleged attacker.

Lt Col Mark Teeton, who is in his 40s, was in uniform when he was stabbed in Sally Port Gardens near Brompton Barracks on 23 July.

Anthony Esan has been charged with attempted murder and is expected to face trial in January.

On Thursday, the 24-year-old's plea and trial preparation hearing at Maidstone Crown Court was adjourned until 23 September.

Judge Philip St John-Stevens fixed a trial date for 20 January, 2025 - which is expected to last three weeks.

As well as attempted murder, Mr Esan is also charged with possession of a bladed weapon.

Kent Police said that Lt Col Teeton is continuing his recovery at home.
