More than 400 people in Berkshire were left without power for almost seven hours due to a fault.

Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) said a power cut affecting 408 customers across 39 postcodes in Newbury was reported at 13:08 BST on Thursday.

By 21:00, the number of affected homes had fallen to 157.

SSEN said engineers were on the scene and were aiming to have the power restored to the remaining affected customers by 23:59.

The power cut was caused by "the most common type of fault we see" on the underground network, SSEN said.

It added that its engineers were "very experienced" in dealing with it.
