Parishioners vote for St Peter road closure plan
Parishioners in St Peter have voted to accept a plan to close and redirect a green lane through a proposed new housing development.
About 130 new homes are planned to be built on the site of the old West Show near the Co-op in St Peter's Village.
Some villagers were concerned that closing part of La Verte Rue could lead to speed issues and an increase in traffic.
Constable Richard Vibert reassured parishioners that by accepting the plans, they would be consulted about the look of the new homes and traffic management.
"I think they [the developers] will come forward with plans that will put pedestrians and cyclists first, speaking to them, that is very much their thinking," he said.
Mr Vibert said the vote was closer than expected, with 58 votes in favour of closing the road and 38 voting against.
The proposal to redirect the road through the development saw 53 votes in favour, with 39 votes against.
