A British retailer has announced plans to open a new flagship store in Bath.

Marks & Spencer has released its plans to open a brand-new flagship store in the city, relocating to a new location at Southgate.

Customers will be able to shop at both M&S Simply Food and the retailer's clothing and beauty ranges.

"Our store rotation strategy is all about making sure we can showcase the very best of M&S," said the store's CEO Stuart Machin.

"We’ve seen great results so far where we have relocated stores, in city centres like Liverpool and Birmingham, helping us to attract new customers and giving us the confidence to go faster with the strategy," he added.

The move includes a £17m investment by the retailer and workers at the current Stall Street store will have the opportunity to relocate to the new premises when it is ready to open.

Bath & North East Somerset Council said: “We welcome this continued investment in our vibrant city which has a fantastic retail offer."

M&S currently has more than 45 stores across the South West, employing more than 4,000 colleagues and working with 1,100 farmers in the region.
