A man has been arrested after phone calls and emails to schools and organisations in a west Cumbria town, police said.

A number of establishments in Cleator Moor locked their doors and kept people inside for a time on Thursday.

Cumbria Police said there had initially been concerns in relation to a man who allegedly had access to a firearm.

Officers are questioning a man on suspicion of malicious communication, but said there was no indication anyone had been armed.

They said there was no threat to the public but officers would speak to organisations affected to offer reassurance.
