People working for the States could be tested for drugs from next year.

The States Employment Board said a consultation as part of the Substance Misuse Policy, applicable to all public servants, would take place early in 2025.

The board said it was going to consult unions, employee networks, staff groups and occupational health specialists about the plan.

It said it planned to bring in the policy in the summer of 2025.

Earlier in 2024, Chief Minister Deputy Lyndon Farnham said ministers were considering compulsory and voluntary drug testing for people who worked for the States.

Officials will look at how such a policy could apply to the use of medicinal cannabis which is prescribed to 6.08% of the island鈥檚 working age population.
