A diver has been found and rescued after going missing near the Eddystone Lighthouse off the coast of Cornwall.

Plymouth RNLI said it received reports at 12:47 BST on Saturday of a missing male diver, and sent its inshore lifeboat and all-weather lifeboat to the scene.

The diver was rescued, along with his equipment, after being spotted drifting on the surface.

The crews were also assisted by the Fowey all-weather lifeboat, Rescue 924 and other vessels that were in the immediate area.

Coxswain Neil Humphrey said the team effort resulted in "a person being able to return home today".

He added: "We located the casualty on the first leg of our search and with the assistance of the inshore lifeboat recovered the diver and his equipment on to the all-weather lifeboat to be assessed.

"The paramedic winch-man from Rescue 924 winched down to carry out a full assessment and thankfully deemed him fit and well."
