A man in his twenties has died after a car crashed into a tree in Warwickshire.

The single vehicle collision happened on the B4453 Straight Mile near Rugby at about 16:35 BST on Sunday.

Two ambulances, an air ambulance and a paramedic officer were sent to the scene, but nothing could be done to save him, said West Midlands Ambulance Service.

Warwickshire Police said it had referred itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) as officers reported having had cause to speak to the man shortly before the collision.

The nature of that contact and the circumstances around the collision are currently subject to investigation, the force said.

Anyone who witnessed the crash or has dashcam footage of the moments leading up to it has been urged to contact Warwickshire Police.
