Two teenagers have been arrested on the suspicion of attempted murder after an 18-year-old man was found with life-threatening injuries.
Essex Police was called to Avon Road in Chelmsford at 20:25 BST on Tuesday after reports of an alleged assault.
A 16-year-old and a 17-year-old boy were in custody, the force said.
The alleged victim was treated by paramedics at the scene before being taken to hospital. Officers said he was no longer in a life-threatening condition.
Essex Police appealed for anyone with doorbell or dashcam footage that could help the investigation to get in touch.
Officers remained at the scene and the nearby field while investigations continue.
Det Insp Guy Turnbull said: 鈥淲e鈥檇 like to assure the public we believe this is an isolated incident and that there is no wider risk to the public.鈥
