A man is in a critical condition in hospital after a serious assault in Liverpool city centre.
Police were called to Temple Street at about 21:00 BST on Tuesday.
They said a man in his 30s had sustained a significant head injury and was taken to hospital where he remains in a critical condition.
A 30-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of section 18 assault and remains in police custody.
'Cordons in place'
One other male reportedly fled the scene on foot in the direction of Victoria Street and inquiries are ongoing to locate him, police said.
Police believe the assault is linked to an earlier disturbance involving three males at The Poste House bar on Cumberland Street.
An investigation has been launched, with several police cordons put in place in the city centre, including Temple Street and Cumberland Street.
Det Insp Kev O’Rourke from Merseyside Police said: “This was a vicious assault that has sadly left a man in hospital in a critical condition.
“A man has been arrested and our investigation is in the very early stages as we look to establish the circumstances of this incident."
