Police have appealed for information after a male taxi driver was seriously assaulted in Coventry.

The driver picked up the male assailant from the city's railway station and drove to Bennetts Road South shortly after 21:30 BST on Monday.

Shortly before the end of the journey the passenger attacked the driver, police said, hitting him in the back and chest numerous times and demanding money.

The driver escaped, but was left with arm and chest injuries, West Midlands Police added.

The individual who attacked him fled the scene.

Officers have released a photograph of a man they want to speak to as part of their inquiries.
