Man charged after barricade incident
A man has been charged over an incident which left a busy road cordoned off for several hours.
Emergency services were called to Elwick Road in Hartlepool on Tuesday morning after a man barricaded himself inside a property.
Cleveland Police said a 34-year-old man had been charged with five counts of assault on an emergency worker and arson with intent to endanger life.
He is due to appear at Teesside Magistrates Court on Thursday.
The man remains on bail on suspicion of other offences including threats to kill, stalking, criminal damage and causing unnecessary suffering to an animal, police said.
Police, firefighters and the ambulance service attended the incident and people were told to avoid the Elwick Road area at the time.
