A man has been arrested on suspicion of a sexual assault and the attempted kidnap of a teenage girl.

West Midlands Police said a 24-year-old man was in custody following an incident in Walsall on Saturday.

A 17-year-old girl was walking down a street off Broadway at about 23:00 GMT when a man in a vehicle attempted to coax her into it, officers said.

When she refused, the driver got out of the vehicle and punched and kicked her, police said.

She managed to escape and run to a nearby home for help.

The force said it was linking the incident to an assault on a woman in her 20s on 28 February.

During that incident, a woman was in Scarborough Road in the town when a man approached her from behind and attacked her.

She managed to break free and ran for help.

"A man is currently in custody but our inquiries continue and we would appeal for people with information to please get in touch," said Det Insp Alice Moseley.
