A man has been arrested after a busy road was cordoned off for several hours.
Emergency services were called to Elwick Road in Hartlepool on Tuesday morning after a man barricaded himself inside a property, Cleveland Police said.
A 34-year-old man was arrested in the early hours of Wednesday morning on suspicion of stalking, threats to kill, assaulting an emergency worker and causing unnecessary suffering to an animal.
The man remained in police custody, police said.
People were told to avoid the Elwick Road area for several hours.
North East Ambulance Service said it received a call at 10:32 GMT on Tuesday to reports of an incident at a private address on the road.
Cleveland Fire Brigade also attended the incident.
