A man has died in a house fire in Kent, according to the county's fire and rescue service.

Dozens of firefighters were deployed to tackle a blaze in Salters Lane, Faversham, at 00:20 BST on Saturday.

A total of 10 fire engines were at the scene at the height of the fire, as well as a command support unit and a height vehicle.

People were advised to avoid the area while emergency services worked.

Kent Police and South East Coast Ambulance Service also attended.

People living in the surrounding area were advised to close windows and doors due to the smoke.

At 06:00 BST, a fire service spokesperson said the blaze was "under control".

By the afternoon, crews were damping down hotspots and Kent Fire & Rescue service said an investigation into the cause would begin shortly.
