Man in hospital after Leeds shooting

A man has been taken to hospital after being shot in Leeds, police said.

West Yorkshire Police said it was contacted at 14:47 BST on Sunday by the ambulance service which had been called to an incident in Stainbeck Road.

Armed officers were deployed to the scene and found a 27-year-old local man with a gunshot wound.

Police said he had been taken to hospital where he was in a stable condition with injuries not considered life-threatening.

Detectives from West Yorkshire Police Homicide and Major Enquiry Team have launched an investigation.

Senior investigating officer Det Ch Insp Lee Townley said: 鈥淲e are carrying out extensive enquiries to establish the full circumstances surrounding this incident and are working to identify those involved.

鈥淭he criminal use of firearms on our streets is always something we treat extremely seriously, and we would like to hear from anyone who witnessed any part of this incident or who has any information or CCTV or dashcam footage that could assist the investigation.

Police said officers would remain at the scene overnight while forensic tests and specialist searches were carried out.

Motorists were advised to avoid the area and seek alternative routes.
