A 27-year-old man has been stabbed multiple times in what police are treating as a racially motivated hate crime.

It happened in a shop shortly after 01:40 BST on Sunday in the Foyle Street area of Londonderry.

The man was taken to hospital for injuries to his left shoulder and lower back but the injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

A 24-year-old man arrested following the incident has been charged with offences including wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and possession of an offensive weapon.

He is due to appear at Londonderry Magistrates' Court on Monday.
