A man has died following a house fire in Hull.

Humberside Fire & Rescue Service said emergency services were called just after 08:30 BST on Tuesday after smoke was seen coming out of a property on Wawne Lodge in the Bransholme area.

Three fire crews tackled the blaze and rescued the man but he died at the scene a short while later despite receiving medical assistance, police said.

The fire service said: "A fire investigation is ongoing and early indications show this was accidental ignition and that a smoke alarm was not activated.

"We recommend that people have a smoke alarm on every level of their home and test them regularly to make sure they are working."

Humberside Police added it did not believe there were "any suspicious circumstances surrounding the man’s death".
