Household waste bin collections in North Somerset could soon change from fortnightly to every three weeks.

Councillors are set to decide whether to amend waste and recycling services in a bid to cut costs, reduce waste and increase recycling rates, at a meeting on 17 July.

The proposed changes also include a weekly collection of soft plastics and a new container for cans and other plastics.

If approved by North Somerset Council, the changes would be gradually introduced in 2025.

Earlier this year, the council held a seven-week public consultation to gauge the impact of any changes to black bin waste collections.

Residents were asked how waste collection services could be improved to make it easier for households to recycle more.

Some residents were concerned that their waste bins may overflow and cause hygiene issues if they were collected every three weeks but a third of residents felt they would be "ready to reduce their bin collection frequency", the council said.

The final proposals for consideration by North Somerset Council were based on feedback received from the consultation.

These also include extending the food waste collection service.
