New homes planned for derelict shoe factory site

Plans for a new housing development on the derelict site of a Grade II listed factory have been submitted.

It could see 97 town houses and apartments built at the old Bective Works shoe and boot factory in Kingsthorpe, Northampton.

The main building, which dates back to 1902, would be refurbished and others in the area demolished.

West Northamptonshire Council is due to discuss the application on Wednesday, 8 November.

Developer Jardine Homes Ltd has proposed converting the factory into flats and town houses, with a further 21 terraced houses nearby.

The area also includes 20th Century industrial buildings, which previously housed taxi firms, offices, retail space and a youth gym.

The for the project was submitted to West Northamptonshire council in October 2022.
