A man who kicked over an elderly shopper in a "senseless" attack has been jailed for more than two years.

Scott McAndrew, 33, was in Redhill town centre on 12 October when he spotted the man - who was in his 80s - struggling outside a shop.

Surrey Police said CCTV showed him concealing his face with his jacket hood before kicking the victim from behind with such force that he fell face-down on to the concrete.

McAndrew, of London Road, Croydon, was sentenced at Guildford Crown Court on Thursday to 27 months in prison after pleading guilty to grievous bodily harm.

Det Sgt Lee Marks said: “Having viewed the CCTV, this was a completely senseless attack.

"Even in interview, McAndrew gave no reason as to why he chose to pick on this person who was clearly much physically weaker than he was.

"If he did it for his own amusement, I hope he finds going to prison less funny."
