Fire service officers successfully negotiated with a three-year-old child, after their parent had accidentally locked themselves out of the house.

The firefighters were called to the property in Scarborough just before 14:00 BST on Sunday.

Using an extension ladder, they managed to instruct the child to fetch the house keys to a first floor window, which was slightly open.

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said it took the crew less than 10 minutes to gain entry.
