A teenager has died after he and another man fell off a motorbike, police have said.

The 17-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene in Hoole Road, Woodchurch following the incident at about 18:25 GMT on Saturday.

An 18-year-old man also suffered serious injuries and is in a critical condition in hospital.

Merseyside Police said they believed other people were with the pair at the time and that the motorcycle was missing from the area.

Insp Ian Cowell said: 鈥淲e believe there were other males who were with them at the time of the collision and we are trying to locate them to see if they have any information.

鈥淲hen officers arrived, the vehicle involved in the collision, which we believe was a motorbike, had been removed and part of our inquiries will be trying to locate this vehicle.鈥
