Traffic restrictions will be enforced on a bridge in Leicester while maintenance work is carried out.

Stonework on the parapet of the bridge in Sandhills Avenue will be repaired and replaced, facilitated by scaffolding on both sides.

Leicester City Council said work would begin on 2 September and last for seven weeks.

Warning signs will be added to nearby approach roads, the authority added, and the bridge will be restricted to one lane for the duration of the works with two-way temporary lights controlling the traffic.

The council said the repairs would ensure the route remains safe for both pedestrians and traffic.

Footway closures over the bridge will also be in place during the works, with pedestrians diverted via a segregated, enclosed route on the carriageway.

Only one footway will be closed at any one time and Pearl Way, the subway footpath that runs under the bridge, will remain open for the duration of the works, the council added.
