A former head teacher who admitted abusing his position by taking more than £15,000 from two primary schools where he worked has been jailed.

Neil Metcalf, of Jubilee Avenue, Liverpool, pleaded guilty to fraud by abuse of position while working at St Anthony of Padua RC Primary School and Our Lady’s Bishop Eton Primary School, both in Mossley Hill.

The 51-year-old had initially denied the charges at Liverpool Magistrates Court, but pleaded guilty at a hearing in July at Liverpool Crown Court.

He was sentenced to 15 months in prison.

Metcalf admitted he dishonestly abused his position while headmaster of the St Anthony of Padua school, to gain £10,800 for himself between 7 September 2017 and 24 May 2022.

The other charge involved him abusing his position while headmaster of Our Lady’s Bishop Eton school, to gain £4,690 for himself.
