A pit bull terrier has been shot by armed gardaà (Irish police) in County Cork on Thursday evening.
Gardaà arrived to a house in Ballyphehane, Cork city at 17:20 local time, following reports the dog was attacking residents.
A man and a woman, who were both injured by the dog, were taken to Cork University Hospital for medical assessment and treatment.
A gardaà spokesperson said that officers "engaged with the owner of the dog, and after failed attempts to sedate the animal, it was shot by the armed response unit and euthanized by the vet".
