A health centre will expand to meet 鈥渋ncreasing visitor and staff demand鈥.
Sunderland City Council approved plans for an extension to Springwell Health Centre.
The expansion will provide seven new consulting and treatment rooms, a larger waiting area and additional toilet facilities.
Supporting documents submitted earlier this year said the facility on Springwell Road, was 鈥渞unning at near capacity鈥.
The request for expansion came from NHS Property Services and local staff to help 鈥渕eet the increasing visitor and staff demand鈥, the Local Democracy Reporting Service said.
The extension will be located within the south-east section of the site at two separate heights.
There would be up to 29 practitioners on-site with 49 available car parking spaces after the development is complete.
The council鈥檚 transportation development team said there were 鈥渘o objections from a highway safety point of view鈥.
