A man has been arrested after 20 cannabis plants were found in a van.

Officers had spotted the van as it tried to avoid their patrol car in Walton, Liverpool, between 01:30 and 02:45 on Thursday, Merseyside Police said.

The driver of the van, a 32-year-old man from Liverpool, left the vehicle and was later detained on Olney Street, a force representative said.

He was arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the production of a controlled Class B drug and was taken to a police station. He was later released under investigation.

Det Insp Michael Fletcher said: “This arrest and seizure of drugs shows how vigilant and dedicated our officers are when policing on the streets and roads in Merseyside.

“We will continue to proactively patrol our roads and respond to anyone suspected of being involved in drug supply or serious and organised crime."
