Child left in critical condition, say police
A child is fighting for life in hospital after emergency services were called to a house in Darlington.
Police officers and paramedics were sent to Frosterley Drive at 09:00 GMT on Friday morning.
Officers from Durham Constabulary remained at the scene on Friday while inquiries were carried out.
The force said the child is in a critical condition in the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle.
A spokeperson for Durham Constabulary said: "Police were called to an address near Haughton Road, Darlington, at around 9am this morning (12 January).
"Paramedics also attended, and a child was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary, where they remain in a critical condition.
"Officers are currently on scene at the address while initial inquiries are carried out."
