Man seriously hurt in petrol station hit-and-run
A petrol station worker has suffered life-threatening injuries after being hit by a car on a forecourt near Wakefield.
Officers were called to the Esso garage on Castleford Road, Normanton, at 02:22 BST on Sunday.
West Yorkshire Police said the male staff member was hurt as he tried to stop the driver of a black Audi who was leaving without paying for their fuel.
An 18-year-old man has since been arrested in the Essex area and remains in police custody, the force added.
A vehicle has also been recovered by police.
Det Insp Heather Shearer said: "This is an extremely serious incident which has left a man who was doing his job in hospital in a critical condition."
"We have extensive enquiries ongoing to identify those involved and are keen to speak with anyone who has any information that could assist us."
