A woman aged in her 50s is in a critical condition in hospital after being hit by a car on a bridge over the M5, said police.
Officers were called to the Sevier Road overbridge near Loxton, Somerset about 07:30 BST BST on Wednesday following the collision involving a grey Mercedes E-Class.
"The pedestrian was taken to hospital with serious injuries. Their condition is currently described as critical," an Avon and Somerset Police spokesperson said.
Officers have appealed for any witnesses who were on the overbridge or travelling on the M5 between junction 21, for Weston-super-Mare, and the Sedgemoor Services.
Anyone with dashcam footage was also asked to contact the force.
