A man has been disqualified from driving after drink-driving at more than 100mph on the M4.

At around 01:15 BST on 28 May, police in an unmarked vehicle followed Christopher Chitima on the westbound carriageway near junction 15 for Swindon. He was stopped near to junction 16 and breathalysed, blowing over the legal limit.

At a hearing last Wednesday, Chitima, of Broad Walk, Knowle, Bristol, pleaded guilty to drink driving and was given a 40-month disqualification.

The 31-year-old was also fined 拢384 and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of 拢154 and court costs of 拢85, police said.

'No excuse'

PC Tom Webster, of Wiltshire Police, said: 鈥淭hese are incredibly dangerous and reckless speeds to be driving at on any occasion, let alone when you have been drinking.

鈥淭here is simply no excuse for Chitima鈥檚 actions and he now faces a lengthy spell off the roads.

鈥淥ur Roads Policing Unit will continue to target and clamp down on drink and drug drivers on our roads as we know it can and does lead to fatal collisions.鈥
