Diver who died at Donegal scuba event named locally
A man who died after getting into difficulty during a dive near Teelin Bay on Saturday afternoon has been named locally as Patrick Doran.
The 49-year-old was from Carrick-on-Shannon in County Leitrim.
Garda铆 (Irish police) said the incident occurred around 12:30 local time on Saturday and they subsequently received a request for assistance from the Irish Coastguard.
Two men were recovered from the water.
Mr Doran was pronounced dead at the scene with a post-mortem examination to take place in the coming days.
The second man, aged in his 60s, was taken to University Hospital Galway for treatment.
Garda divers and local vessels spent some time at the scene of the incident on Sunday, as the investigation into the matter continues.
The North West Dive Rally, which was scheduled to run throughout the weekend, was cancelled following Mr Doran's death.
