Officers said the family of Mr Murphy, from Gosforth, had been informed and were being supported by specialist officers.
Sgt John Sanderson, of the force's serious collision investigation unit, said: 鈥淎s ever, our thoughts remain with Andrew鈥檚 family who have had to come to terms with the heart-breaking loss of their loved one.
鈥淚t is for them we will continue to conduct a thorough investigation and find answers for the questions they will undoubtedly have.鈥
He added that it was believed Mr Murphy was in Newcastle city centre in the hours before the crash and the force wanted the public's help to establish his movements.
