Tributes have been paid to a boy who drowned in the Lake District while on a school trip.

Abuzr Mirza, 16, from Burnley, Lancashire, was on a trip to Windermere on 24 July when he got into difficulty after entering the water.

An inquest into the circumstances of his death is due to be opened by Cumbria Coroners Court on 13 August.

Posting on Facebook, his father Osman Beg described him as a "diamond".

He wrote: "He was and still is a perfect son, I wish everyone is blessed with a son like my son.

"Just perfect in every way."

He said the boy, who had celebrated his birthday just days before, had been on an end-of-year school trip.

He added: "Final words: please keep your children close and always support them in what they want to do."

The Health and Safety Executive, which looks into the possible culpability of businesses in deaths and injuries, and Cumbria Police are investigating Abuzr's death.

The Lake District National Park Authority confirmed the boy had been at the visitor centre at Brockhole on Windermere before entering the lake.

A search for the teenager began shortly after 17:00 BST and his body was found at about 23:45.
