A contract for Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS) to provide cover at Eurotunnel is to end in 2025.
KFRS has been providing fire cover at the crossing for 30 years, under a separate arm to its day-to-day public services.
The service's chief executive, Ann Millington, said although the operation was "no longer viable" cover and safety would not be compromised.
Eurotunnel says it is to consider alternative fire service providers over the next year after KFRS withdrew from the contract.
"There will still be a fire station at the tunnel with a full fire and rescue team," Ms Millington said.
A Eurotunnel spokesman said: "Eurotunnel has received notice from KFRS that they intend to withdraw from the contract to provide private first line of response (Flor) services at the Channel Tunnel next year.
"Eurotunnel thanks KFRS for its service and is exploring alternative Flor arrangements with other service providers.鈥
