The 46-year-old from Hampshire was pronounced dead at the scene in South West Industrial Estate.
Durham Police said an investigation into Mr Cornwell's death was ongoing and his death was being treated as "unexpected".
Mr Cornwell was working as a videographer at 聽Sky-High Skydiving Peterlee when he died.
At the time, the firm said: "We are all deeply saddened by the loss of a close friend, colleague and talented member of our team, our skydiving family."
