A 21-year-old man has been charged with murder following the death of a 36-year-old who was found with serious injuries on a city street.

Lee Crewe, 36, died after being found unresponsive on Chepstow Road in Newport on Tuesday.

The man accused of killing him has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Newport Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

They are receiving support from specialist officers.

"Our thoughts remain with Lee Crewe's family and friends at this time," said Det Ch Insp Virginia Davies from Gwent Police.

"As part of our investigation, we want to speak to anyone who may have any information or details that could assist our investigation, particularly if you've not yet spoken to us."

The force said it was not looking for anyone else in connection with Mr Crewe's death.
