Planning permission has been secured for improvements to the maternity unit at Raigmore Hospital in Inverness.

The 拢9m project will involve an extension being built at the hospital to provide space for larger birthing rooms.

NHS Highland said the refurbishment was required to meet the needs of women across Highland and Moray.

The Scottish government is contributing 拢5m towards the scheme.

NHS Highland said: "It will bring our maternity unit up to modern standards and provide a better experience for mums and the staff providing the service.

"We are pleased that our engagement with Highland Council planners has been successful and are grateful for their support on this project."
