A prison employee has pleaded guilty to having an "inappropriate relationship" with an inmate.

Kelsey Calvert admitted to an offence of misconduct in public office while working at HMP Holme House in Stockton-on-Tees.

The 28-year-old from Ryhope, Sunderland, also pleaded guilty to a charge of carrying a prohibited item after admitting to bringing codeine into the category C men's prison.

Calvert pleaded guilty to both offences at Teesside Crown Court.

The court heard the relationship happened on and before 22 November 2022.

Judge Richard Bennett adjourned the case for a pre-sentence report.

Calvert was granted unconditional bail and will be sentenced on 4 October.
