Former Doctor Who star Karen Gillan's new movie, Not Another Happy Ending, has been selected to close the 67th Edinburgh International Film Festival.

Based in Glasgow, the romantic comedy directed by John McKay also stars French actor Stanley Weber.

The festival's Chris Fujiwara said it shows "the time-honoured genre of romantic comedy can work in the contemporary Scottish context".

Producer Claire Mundell said she was "thrilled" to close the event in June.

"Living and working in Scotland, we wanted to create something representative of the bustling creativity and wonderful, witty sense of humour we see around us," she added.

Gillan, who stars as a successful author with writer's block, worked with McKay in 大象传媒 Four film We'll Take Manhattan - about the love affair between photographer David Bailey and model Jean Shrimpton.

Not Another Happy Ending was produced by Synchronicity Films in association with 大象传媒 Scotland.

The Edinburgh International Film Festival has announced it will partner with the British Film Institute to celebrate the films of French director Jean Gremillon.

Hollywood director Richard Fleischer's movies will also be showcased featuring 1973 Charlton Heston classic Soylent Green, as well as Richard Attenborough and John Hurt in 10 Rillington Place (1971).

The 11-day event runs 19 - 30 June in cinemas across Edinburgh.
