Reporter Tom de Castella and his dad each bet that the other's car was more harmful to the environment. It was a petrol-fuelled old banger up against a 2009 diesel.
But when Tom found someone to do the test, he also discovered that some brand new cars were dirtier than either, in one crucial respect.
