X Factor runner-up Olly Murs says his aim is to "get rid" of his X Factor tag

Olly Murs has said he wants to "get rid" of his reputation as runner-up in X Factor and concentrate on his solo recording career.

Currently part of a nationwide national tour, last December the singer lost to Joe McElderry in the final of series six of the TV talent show.

The 25-year-old from Witham said he wants a really good album.

He said: "We want something that's going to showcase me as an artist and get rid of the X Factor name as such."

In February Murs signed a joint record deal between Simon Cowell's Syco Music label and Epic to release his music.

'Hardest' challenge

"The hardest for X Factor stars when they finish the show, is to then get over that X Factor thing," Murs said.

"Like JLS have done and Alexandra Burke - you wouldn't necessarily look at them as X Factor.

"You look at them as how great they've done. That's what I'm trying to do now.

"My aim is to get something out as soon as possible but take time with it.

"Obviously, we can't take time like a couple of years but not just rush songs together."
