Chart-topping boy band The Wanted have recorded this year's Comic Relief single.

The quintet, who scored a number one last year with All Time Low, will release the charity track Gold Forever next month.

They follow acts such as The Spice Girls, McFly, Westlife and The Saturdays to release the official song for Red Nose Day.

The song comes out to download on 13 March and is in shops the next day.

"This song is about a day in your life that you never forget," the group's Max George said.

'Great cause'

"It's an upbeat, feel-good track and our favourite so far.

"We're really excited to get it out there, and delighted that it is supporting such a great cause."

Bandmate Jay McGuiness added: "We're in a position where we can contribute to Comic Relief.

"We grew up watching it as kids and to be involved is crazy but an absolute honour."

The band's self-titled debut album went top five last year.

The Wanted will perform the track on the TV telethon on 18 March.

Money raised will go to vulnerable and disadvantaged people in the UK and Africa.
