Boy band Kingsland Road say they lost their identity on The X Factor.

The group, who left the show last night after losing the sing-off to Tamera Foster, said their performances were more polished than usual.

"We weren't completely ourselves on the show, so I think we need to get some of that naughtiness back."

The five-piece added that they were looking forward to returning to gigs, adding that with their own material, "we're a completely different band".

Jay Scott said: "One of the things that we've learnt is to just be yourself. If you're not yourself, people can't connect with you."

They were keen not blame the production team, or their mentor Gary Barlow, for taking them in the wrong direction.

"I don't think us as a band ever want to upset anybody," said JJ Thompson.

"We don't want to air our opinion because I feel like we come across in the wrong way but I think the past couple of weeks, we've had to say we wanted to do our own thing."

He said he thought the problems started earlier in the competition.

"We kind of shot ourselves in the foot when we did Boot Camp because we did Stevie Wonder and we kind of did Motown then and maybe that's the vibe they picked up from us."

Sharon Osbourne, Louis Walsh and Nicole Scherzinger all voted to save Tamera Foster after she and Kingsland Road found themselves in the bottom two.

Barlow said his act would continue to have a successful career, despite not making it any further on the programme.

He later tweeted: "So sorry to lose @KingslandRd tonight! This years X factor is so unpredictable!"
