Paramount has announced an official US release date for Beverly Hills Cop 4.
Eddie Murphy is set to return as police officer Axel Foley on 25 March 2016, with Jerry Bruckheimer and Brett Ratner in line to produce and direct the film.
The third Beverly Hills Cop film was released in 1994, with the original coming out in 1984.
No details of the plot of the new film have been announced, but it is reported that it will be set in Detroit and Los Angeles.
Beverly Hills Cop is a series of action-comedy films which follow the story of Axel Foley, a street-smart Detroit cop, who travels to LA to investigate crimes.
A TV spin-off of the franchise was being planned but the idea was turned down by CBS last year.
The original film is estimated to have grossed $235m (£138m) at the US box office.
Several other successful films are reported to be having sequels or remakes released including Gremlins, Terminator featuring Matt Smith and Godzilla, which is set to be released this month.
Last month, it was confirmed that a sequel to hit 1993 comedy Mrs Doubtfire was under way, with Robin Williams set to star.
The original saw the comic actor as an estranged father who posed as an elderly Scottish nanny to spend more time with his children.
The Golden Globe-winning film was a big hit, taking $441m (£262m) at the box office worldwide.
