Happily ever after? Batman asks Catwoman to marry him
Gotham City may soon be ringing with wedding bells after Batman's surprise marriage proposal to Catwoman.
Bruce Wayne gets down on one knee to ask his adversary (and sometime partner) Selina Kyle for her hand in his latest comic adventure.
Fans saw the romantic moment in Batman #24, which hit comic store shelves this week.
He popped the question on a dark, rainy rooftop (where else?) but her answer has yet to be revealed.
Batman and Catwoman have fought as enemies and worked together to fight crime since she was introduced as a character in 1940.
She's looking fierce for a 77-year-old.
The current writer of the Batman comics says that showing a human, emotional side to the Dark Knight is something DC comics has yet to explore in 78 years of comic adventures.
"Everyone's done vengeance, everyone's done 'The night is so dark,' " writer Tom King told USA Today.
"Giving Batman more pain doesn't reveal anything about his character because he's taken as much pain as he can.
"But giving him love and joy - that combines with the tragedy of his past into something new and never done before."
Tom also says the proposal doesn't mean Batman and Catwoman are headed for a "happily ever after" storyline.
"I want people to go home and be like, 'Should she marry him? Should she say yes?'
"There's a whole conversation that could come out of this."
"Was this a moment of vulnerability or a moment of arrogance? That's almost the cliff hanger."
But fans have pointed out this has happened before, in DC's "alternate universes".
Catwoman is one of the most iconic characters in the DC Universe and has been portrayed in movies by Lee Meriweather, Michelle Pfeiffer, Halle Berry and Anne Hathaway.
She is set to return to cinema screens in a new movie called Gotham Sirens, a spin-off from 2016's Suicide Squad movie.
Ben Affleck's Batman will return in another solo adventure and appear in an upcoming Justice League movie, featuring Superman and Wonder Woman.
