In pictures: Pope visits the UK Day 2

The Pope spent the second day of his four-day visit to the UK in London.

The Pope's day began in Twickenham at St Mary's University College for a number of events, including one entitled the Big Assembly.

The streets surrounding the event were lit up with the white robes of monks and colourful school uniforms.

Members of the Maria Fidelis Roman Catholic School Gospel Choir sang during the Big Assembly.

Proud Mum Becky Gorrod reacts after her eight-month-old baby, Alice, was selected from the crowd to be blessed as the Pope left St Mary's.

The 大象传媒's Daniel Boettcher said: "As the Pope's motorcade swept into the college, protesters - about 100 of them - chanted 'Resign, resign'. Some in the crowd chanted back 'Viva Papa' and 'Benedict, we love you'."

The 大象传媒's Dhruti Shah, who was in Twickenham, said: "The green outside St Mary's University College in Twickenham is a sea of uniforms and full of noise as the excitement levels build."

Dr Rowan Williams, the head of the Church of England, welcomed Pope Benedict to Lambeth Palace. The Lambeth Palace meeting is the first time a Pope has met the Archbishop at his official residence.

The Pope used his speech at Westminster Hall to warn that religion, and especially Christianity, was being marginalised.

Former prime ministers Gordon Brown, Tony Blair, Sir John Major and Baroness Thatcher were in the audience at Westminster Hall.

The Archbishop of Canterbury and Pope Benedict joined in the singing during the service at Westminster Abbey.

Following the service at Westminster Abbey the Pope signed the church's visitors' book.
