EastEnders has won the Christmas Day viewing figures battle, peaking at 11.7 million viewers and with an average of 11.4 million, overnight figures show.

The triumph for the soap, for the second year running, came as the 大象传媒 notched up eight of the top 10 most-viewed programmes during the day.

ITV1's rival soap, Coronation Street, came sixth with a peak of 9.5 million and an average of 9 million viewers.

Doctor Who was second, with new comedy series Come Fly With Me third.

The outing for the timelord, which re-worked Charles Dickens's A Christmas Carol, averaged 10.3 million viewers with a peak of 10.7 million.

Come Fly With Me, an airport-set show from Little Britain stars Matt Lucas and David Walliams, was watched by 10.3 million viewers.

The other 大象传媒 entries in the top 10 were Strictly Come Dancing's Christmas special, The One Ronnie, the film Shrek The Third, and the late 大象传媒 News bulletin.

In eighth place was ITV1's Emmerdale, which saw the day arrive of Chas's wedding to Carl, which averaged 7.2 million viewers and peaked at 7.8 million.

All the figures are based on overnight average figures produced by BARB, which do not take into account viewers who will watch shows at a later date on the 大象传媒 iPlayer or the ITV Player.
